Linguistics IV - Psycho- and Neurolinguistics

Psycholinguistics investigates how language processing takes place in the human speaker/listener/reader. It uses experimental methods for this purpose.  Major research areas are spoken and written language comprehension, language production, and language acquisition. More specific research areas include second language processing, grammar processing, and the study of speech-accompanying gestures.

Neurolinguistics uses imaging and electrophysiological methods to investigate which brain areas are involved in language processing and over what time course. In addition, neurolinguistics investigates which disorders of language processing occur in the case of damage to or diseases of the brain.
