Dialog / DataStar: One-Stop-Shops internationaler Fachinformationen.
Nach einem Rückblick auf die Geschichte von Dialog wird die derzeitige Situation der Dialog Corp. im Konzern der Thomson Corp. beschrieben. Dialog produziert selber keine Datenbanken, sondern versteht sich ausschließlich als Informationsanbieter, der bevorzugt den Information Professional anspricht, aber zusätzlich auch Produkte für Endnutzer offeriert. Der Artikel konzentriert sich auf die beiden Oberflächen DialogWeb und DataStarWeb. DialogWeb bietet mit Menüführung und Befehlssprache zwei Zugänge zum Content, wobei beim informetrischen Retrieval sogar wissenschaftliches Experimentieren mit Informationsinhalten möglich wird. DataStarWeb ist ein menügeführtes Produkt. Kern des Content von DataStar sind Wirtschafts- und WTM-Informationen mit Schwerpunkt in pharmazeutischer, chemischer und biomedizinischer Industrie. Mit PrivateStar können firmeninterne wie -externe Dokumente in einer "privaten" DataStar-Datei verwaltet werden.

The article presents a short history of Dialog and the present situation of Dialog Corp. inside the group of Thomson companies. Dialog itself does not produce any database but acts as an information distributer only. The focus group are mainly information professionals, though there are some products for end users. This article gives full details about DialogWeb and DataStarWeb. DialogWeb offers with a guided search and with a command search two ways of access to information content. Informetric commands allow to execute scientific experiments on information content. DataStarWeb is menu driven, main content of DataStar consists of business and STM information concerning pharmaceutical, chemical and biomedical industry. With PrivateStar companies can manage own internal and external documents in a "private" DataStar file.
