Information Retrieval

Katrin Scheibe, ehemals: Maurice Schleußinger

In Information Retrieval we are interested in understanding, developing and optimising the process of retrieving relevant information from a (digital) system. Web search engines like Google or Baidu are good examples of Information Retrieval systems, but many apps and services such as online shopping, Social Media and digital personal assistants also have search functionality.
Related fields are Human-Computer Interaction, Natural language processing and Computer Science.
Current research in our institute includes the intersection of Data Visualisation and Information Retrieval and efforts to develop Information Retrieval systems for use within Virtual Reality.
